Engine, a travel platform, announced it has launched Engine X, its first corporate card. The card, according to the announcement, is built for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) that have traditionally been underserved by traditional banks and fintechs. The card, said the announcement, addresses a significant gap in the market: Only an estimated 28% of SMBs with less than $10 million in annual revenue have access to corporate cards.
Engine X closes this gap for SMBs, said the announcement, delivering the flexibility that SMBs need, while saving them time and money. Key features include:
- Travel rewards, no annual fees. Engine X delivers up to 10% rewards on travel booked through Engine’s platform and 1.5% on all other purchases, all without annual membership fees. Customers can “double dip” and earn hotel and airline loyalty points through the Engine platform in addition to earning Engine Rewards.
- Intelligent spend controls. Engine X integrates with company travel policies, allowing businesses to set daily spend limits, approved spending categories and merchant restrictions.
- Flexibility with virtual or physical cards. Engine X enables SMBs to issue both physical and instant virtual cards to employees, including temporary virtual cards for 1099 contractors, such as construction workers or disaster relief responders.
- Real-time visibility and AI-powered insights. Users can get visibility into business spend as soon as a card is swiped, compare spend trends over time and (coming soon) get AI recommendations on how to spend smarter.
Elia Wallen, CEO of Engine, said, “Modern businesses move too fast for manual reconciliation and out-of-pocket expenses.” Engine X was built, he said, “to be the command center for company spend, from travel to daily operations.” With customizable spend controls and instant visibility into every transaction, he said, “we’re providing SMBs with a powerful tool that pairs sophisticated management software with one of the most rewarding business cards on the market.”
