Destination is second Australian gateway for carrier
A Turkish Airlines plane that departed from Istanbul has landed at Sydney to complete the carrier’s longest flight. The new destination, according to an announcement, marked “a monumental milestone” as the carrier expanded to its second destination in Australia, reaching 351 destinations across six continents within its global network. The airline completed its first flight from Melbourne in March.
Flights between Istanbul and Sydney will be operated with the airline’s new fleet of Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which are designed for long-haul comfort with 32 flatbed seats in business class, and 297 recliners for economy travelers. Set to be operated four times a week via Kuala Lumpur, flights will take 19 hours with a 9,300-mile flight path.
Bilal Ekşi, CEO, said the flight’s arrival “represents our ongoing commitment to connect travelers across the globe, providing a seamless gateway between Europe and Australia with the comfort and hospitality of Turkish Airlines.” Once the airline receives aircraft capable of conducting the journey in a single leap, he said, “we look forward to further expanding our offering in the near future with Australia’s first nonstop flights to Istanbul.”
