US Flight Cancellation Rate Down for Second Straight Month in June

The cancellation rate for US passenger flights in June decreased for a second consecutive month to 1.7% compared with 1.8% a year earlier, according to the latest U.S. Department of Transportation Air Travel Consumer Report. The month-over-month rate, however, increased from 0.9% in May. U.S. carriers operated about 660,300 flights in June, down from the 662,300 operated in June 2025.

The domestic carriers with the lowest cancellation rates for the month were Allegiant Air (0.5%), Southwest Airlines (0.6%) and Alaska Airlines network (0.8%). Networks include branded codeshare partners.

American Airlines network had the highest cancellation rate (3.4%), followed by Frontier Airlines (2%) and JetBlue (1.5%).

The number of complaints filed in June increased to 6,803 from 6,448 filed in May. About 65% were for US carriers, 30% for foreign carriers and about 5% for travel agencies. The subcategories with the most complaints were refunds (1,882), flight schedule (1,394) and baggage (954).
