TAP Air Portugal announced plans to relocate its New York operations to Terminal 6 (T6) at John F. Kennedy International Airport later this year, reinforcing, said the announcement, its long-standing commitment to the US market and elevating the travel experience for its customers.
Having served New York for more than 50 years, TAP currently operates daily nonstop service between JFK and Lisbon, using its Airbus A330neo for most of the year and the A321neo during the winter season. Operations will continue from Terminal 1 until the transition to T6 is complete.
The move will place TAP alongside key partners including JetBlue and international carriers such as Lufthansa and Air Canada, strengthening connectivity and enabling smoother onward travel for customers through expanded codeshare and alliance opportunities, according to the announcement.
For passengers, it means faster airport processing, shorter walking distances, and a more intuitive, stress-free experience from check-in to boarding, the announcement said. The terminal’s advanced technology — including biometric and self-service options — will reduce wait times, while enhanced lounge, dining and retail offerings will further improve comfort and convenience, according to the announcement.
Carlos Alberto Mascarenhas Antunes, director for the Americas, said moving to T6 “is an important step in TAP’s evolution in the US.” He continued, “It allows us to better serve our customers with a more efficient, connected and elevated airport experience, while positioning TAP for continued growth in this key market.”
