Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the least stressful airport in the US, according to a report from Boooking.com for Business. The report analyzed multiple factors, including flight disruptions, customs waits and average transfer time into the closest business hub, to reveal the airports where business travelers are least likely to experience travel stress.

Among the report’s findings:

  • Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport ranks as the least stressful airport in the research, with low congestion levels of 30.5% and a short 13-minute drive into central Phoenix. Flight disruption rates are also below average at 20.5%, while customs wait times average just 7.6 minutes.
  • Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport ranks second lowest for travel stress, supported by relatively low disruption rates of 18.4% and an average customs wait time of just 13 minutes. The drive into central San Jose takes around 12 minutes on average, helping keep onward travel quick and convenient.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the US, ranks third despite its high passenger volumes and role as a primary hub for Delta Airlines.

The rest of the Top 10 in order were: John Wayne Airport (Santa Ana, Calif.), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County; Midway International (Chicago); Baltimore/Washington International, Oakland International, Washington Dulles International and Denver International.

Joshua Wood, director of business travel at Booking.com for Business, said: “Business travel often comes with tight schedules, so even relatively small disruptions can create added pressure for travelers trying to stay on time and focused on work. Although businesses can’t do much to impact things like traffic congestion, security wait times and flight disruptions, it’s important these are taken into account when booking and organizing trips.”

Wood added: “Some of the most effective ways to reduce travel-related stress on work trips are allowing plenty of buffer time before and after meetings, choosing conveniently located hotels and prebooking flexible transfers for a seamless commute into the central business district.”
