BCD Meetings & Events (BCD M&E) has appointed Thiago Araujo as global sustainability director as the company looks to drive sustainability across corporate travel, meetings and events. Based in France, this new role follows publication of BCD M&E’s 2024 Sustainability Guide. Previously, Araujo held key roles at Volvo Group, GL Events, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the UN Department of Public Information and and the UN Rio+20 Conference.

The Star Alliance airline network has named Michael Rousseau, CEO of Air Canada, as chairperson of its chief executive board. Rousseau was elected by the alliance’s member airlines to a two-year term, during which he will help to guide “the strategic direction of the alliance,” according to a statement. The alliance’s chief executive board includes the CEOs of each of its 25 member airlines. Rousseau succeeds United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, who was appointed in 2020.

Steigenberger Hotels has named Stephan Hungeling as chief transformation officer and managing director of Steigenberger Hotels. In this new role, according to an announcement, he will guide and organize the company’s transformation and oversee all day-to day operations. Previously, Hungeling led The Christ Group, a German jewelry and watch supplier. He has also had executive roles at several other retail businesses.
