Travel agency air ticket sales set a record in August at $8.3 billion, a 2% over year increase, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC).

For the month, passenger trips issued through online travel agencies decreased 2% year over year, while those issued by leisure and corporate agencies decreased 3% and 6%, respectively, over the same period.

In other results:

  • Total passenger trips at 24.6 million (down 1% month over month and up 1% year over year)
  • US domestic trips at 15.7 million {down 2% month over month and flat year over year)
  • International trips at 8.9 million (up 1% month over month and up 3% year over year}
  • Average ticket price was $532 (up 1% month over month and 3% year over year}
  • Average economy ticket price was $485 (up 1% month over month and up 4% year over year)
  • Average premium ticket price was $1,309 (up 4% month over month and up 7% year over year)

Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer said, “Air travel demand in August highlighted momentum seen throughout the summer as ARC-settled passenger trips were above 2024 levels in June, July and August.” This data, he said, “reflects recent reports from multiple airlines of strong demand and encouraging outlooks.”

NDC transactions accounted for 20.8% of the total ARC-settled transactions in August 2025 — up from 18.8% in August 2024. In August 2025, a total of 1,093 travel agencies reported NDC transactions.
