Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced it would be joining the Oneworld Alliance, making it the 16th member of the airline confederation and the second full member based in Southeast Asia. (Malaysia Airlines is the other.) Once it joins in 2027, according to the announcement, the carrier will gain access to a global network of nearly 1,000 destinations across over 170 countries and territories.

Lucio Tan III, president of PAL Holdings, the airline’s parent company, said, “This is a defining and transformative moment for Philippine Airlines.” He continued, “Becoming a member of the Oneworld Alliance and strengthening Southeast Asia’s representation within the group significantly brings the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before.”

Robert Isom, CEO of American Airlines and chairman of the Oneworld governing board, said, “PAL’s entry into Oneworld supports our long-term strategic growth and strengthens our connectivity across key markets in the Asia-Pacific region.”
