Justworks, a benefits, payroll and HR technology provider, has launched Expenses, an expense management tool that PEO customers can use to process expense reimbursement requests alongside payroll. Expenses, according to the company, consolidates tools and minimizes the risk of error when reimbursing employees for out-of-pocket expenses. A PEO is a professional employer organization that performs various employee administration tasks such as payroll and benefits administration on behalf of a business, which is what Justworks does.
With Expenses, according to the company, administrators can set up approval workflows and custom rules, providing structure for employees and simplifying the reconciliation process for accountants. Additional features allow employees to easily create expenses on the go with the Justworks mobile app, including taking pictures of receipts. Business management can gain accurate financial insights by categorizing and analyzing expenses alongside payroll data.
A spokesperson for Justworks told BTE that throughout Expenses’ beta period, the top category of expense reimbursement submissions was travel. The second most created expense category was meals and entertainment, often associated with travel. With the support of customer feedback, said the spokesperson, Justworks also developed a feature within Expenses to record and track non-reimbursable expenses, so employees using company credit cards can record transactions and receipts (without triggering payments) all within the Justworks platform. The mobile capabilities also allow employees to take a photo and upload their receipts on the go, eliminating the headache of keeping track of receipts throughout a business trip.
