Following the introduction of new product travel names and experiences last year and the expansion of the Basic tier to Delta Comfort last fall, Delta announced it is further expanding its Basic experience offering to include Delta First, Delta Premium Select and Delta One.

This expansion, said the announcement, “is designed to give customers more choice when flying, allowing them to tailor travel according to their preferences and needs.”

Details of the new Basic options include:

  • Similar to what’s in market for Delta Main and Delta Comfort, the Basic tier allows customers access to the premium onboard experience as Classic and Extra options, but at a lower price point, and with some trade-offs, such as:
    • Seats assigned after check-in
    • Reduced checked bag allowance
    • Lower mileage earning
    • No complimentary or paid upgrades
    • No same-day confirmed or same-day standby travel changes
    • Changes or cancellations for a fee
  • Customers on a Basic ticket will be able to access Delta Sky Clubs only through a means of entry other than their purchased fare (e.g., Delta Sky Club membership or an access-granting eligible credit card).
  • The entry-level tier for Delta One, called Basic Business, offers customers the full onboard Delta One experience, without the non-flight elements of the journey (Delta One check-in and Delta One Lounge). Customers must purchase a Delta One Classic or Extra fare for access to the Delta One Lounge or Delta Sky Club. (As customers become accustomed to the new fare parameters, said the announcement, access to the Delta One Lounge and Delta Sky Club will be permitted on a Basic Business ticket for travel dates through Jan. 18, 2027.)

Joe Esposito, chief commercial officer, said, “This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products.”
