Upgrade is part of nearly $9 billion ‘transformation’

British Airways has unveiled a new First Class seat. The carrier says it is the only European carrier to offer First Class from London to the US. New features include a wider and longer seat, a 32-inch TV screen, “buddy dining” and an “optimal sense of space and privacy” with a personal luggage space.

The new seat is 36.5 inches wide with a bed length of 79 inches and features a multipurpose ottoman and stowable table, a 32-inch 4K TV screen and adjustable mood lighting that includes scenes such as “relax,” “dine” and “cinema.” The seat can be adjusted with the touch of a button to find the desired level of comfort and is located within a cocooned 60-inch curved wall for what the airline calls “ultimate privacy, while still providing a spacious environment.”

For customers traveling together in the center of the cabin, the divider slides open to create a shared lounge space, and the stowable tables mean customers can enjoy “buddy dining” in the seat with their travel companion.

Travelers in first class also enjoy exclusive lounge access, fast-track security and use of the First Wing at Heathrow (a priority check-in and security area).

British Airways said it has already rolled out over 120 initiatives as part of a nearly $9 billion transformation — including new short-haul seats, free WiFi messaging on board and a refreshing of lounges across its global network.
