Avelo Airlines, a Houston-based low-cost carrier, announced it has placed a firm order for 50 Embraer E195‑E2 (E2) aircraft, with purchase rights for 50. This will support, said the announcement, the airline’s strategy to deliver affordable and convenient travel across the US. Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2027. The list-price value of the order is $4.4 billion, excluding purchase rights.
The E2’s excellent short-field performance, said the announcement, enabled by E2TS (Embraer Enhanced Takeoff System), Embraer’s proprietary technology, is a key capability that will open new markets for Avelo and drive efficiency in many of Avelo’s existing airports. This, along with the aircraft’s range, fuel efficiency and small noise footprint establish it as the ideal aircraft to expand Avelo’s network, according to the announcement.
Andrew Levy, CEO of Avelo, said, “Our customers will love the E2’s comfortable two-by-two seating, in-seat power ports, large overhead bins and quiet cabin.” The aircraft’s exceptional performance, size and efficiency, he said, “make it the perfect choice for the future growth of our scheduled service network.”
Arjan Meijer, CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said, “Avelo complements its narrowbody fleet with the best-in-class E195-E2.” Its exceptional fuel efficiency, quiet operations and short‑field capability, he said, “will unlock new markets and optimize capacity across its network — all with a cabin that passengers truly love.”
Avelo started flying in April of 2021 and now serves 47 cities in 18 states and Puerto Rico, as well as three Caribbean destinations.
