US-based travel agency air ticket sales in February decreased by 4% year over year and by 8% month over month to $8.6 billion, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC). Total passenger trips settled by ARC decreased 1% year over year and 10% month over month, reaching 24 million in February. Other results from the report included:

  • The number of February trips sold by US-based corporate agencies, those with at least 70% self-reported corporate and government business, dropped for the second month in a row. That figure was down 2.9% year over year, after declining 0.44% in January.
  • US domestic trips totaled 14.7 million, down 10% month over month and 2% year over year.
  • International trips totaled 9.3 million, down 10% month over month and flat year over year.
  • The average ticket price was $562, up 1% month over month and down 2% year over year. The average economy class ticket price was $482, up 2% month over month and down 1% year over year. The average premium class ticket was $1,238, up 1% month over month and down 2% year over year.

NDC transactions accounted for 19.1% of the total ARC reported and settled transactions in February — a 7% increase from 17.9% in February 2024. A total of 860 travel agencies reported NDC transactions in February 2025.

Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer, said the numbers “are reflecting the overall demand volatility seen by airlines.” He said macroeconomic trends are creating a more dynamic environment for consumers, businesses and airlines in the short term. Even with fewer passengers traveling compared with January, said Solomon, the year-over-year data for both domestic and international trips remains steady.
