US travel agency air ticket sales reached $7.2 billion in October — a 2% decrease from the same month in 2022, according to the Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC). Total passenger trips increased 4% over the same period to 21.7 million, with a 5% increase in US domestic air travel.
Other results showed:

  • US domestic trips declined 1% month over month, but rose 4% year over year to 14.2 million.
  • International trips declined 3% month over month, but rose 2% year over year to 7.5 million.
  • Average ticket price rose 4% month over month, but declined 4% year over year to $557.

Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer, said that despite month-over-month declines, the growth in passenger trips compared with last October “reflects sustained demand for domestic and international travel.”

October’s ancillary sales (including upgraded seats, checked bags, etc.) increased 26% year over year from $16.7 million to $21.1 million, while ancillary transactions increased 28% to 364,678 over the same period.
