Nearly half of senior executives at luxury hotels (46%) are very concerned about staff retention and hiring new people in their sector, according to research from Communications Specialist Ltd., a communication technology company. A further 44% said they are quite concerned, while just 10% said they are not concerned at all.

Providing better facilities and accommodations for staff is seen as the most important issue to focus on in order to address the staffing issue, followed by increasing salaries, raising the budget for training staff and helping them to develop, and then investing more in technology to make jobs easier.

Kevin Buchler, chief marketing officer at Communications Specialist Ltd., said that senior executives within the luxury hotel market are optimistic about future growth. He said the survey showed half predicting growth of between 10% and 30%, and 28% expect it to be higher than that. However, he added, “without the right level of motivated staff, the sector is at risk of not fulfilling its potential growth.”

The research was done by an independent research agency that interviewed 50 senior executives at luxury hotel chains on five continents.
