JetBlue will stop flying between Boston and New York LaGuardia on April 29. The carrier’s decision to pull out of the major Northeastern route, according to multiple news reports, is part of its strategy to focus on leisure travel.

According to a statement from the carrier, the airport fees charged to JetBlue at LGA have risen sharply, making it impossible to offer the low fares customers expect while maintaining profitability on this route.

JetBlue currently flies from Boston to LaGuardia six times per day from Sunday through Friday and twice on Saturday. JetBlue will continue to connect Boston with JFK, offering the route eight times daily in the late spring and summer, according to Cirium. The airline is also introducing daily service from Boston to Islip Airport on Long Island in May.
