Delta Had Lowest Cancellation Rate in December, Says DOT

Allegiant had highest rate, followed by Alaska and JetBlue >>

Delta Air Lines Network had the lowest rate of canceled flights in December (0.3%), followed by Southwest Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines (both 0.5%), according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s latest Air Travel Consumer Report. Networks include branded codeshare partners.

Allegiant Air had the highest rate of cancellations in December (1.4%), followed by Alaska Airlines Network (1.2%) and JetBlue (1.1%).

Overall, 0.7% of flights were canceled, up from the 0.4% cancellation rate for December 2023. For all of 2024, 1.4% of flights were canceled, higher than the 1.3% rate in 2023, according to the DOT.

In December, US carriers operated nearly 627,400 flights, an increase of 3.9% year over year and a 2.6% increase month over month.

For calendar year 2024, airlines reported 437 tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights and 61 tarmac delays of more than four hours on international flights.
