British Airways announced it will open a new lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 C Gates in 2028 as part of its ongoing investment to transform every lounge in its Heathrow portfolio over the coming years.
The new lounge will offer airfield views and feature one of the world’s longest airport lounge bars, according to the announcement. The airline has also announced a complete redevelopment of the Heathrow Arrivals lounge featuring the airline’s latest lounge concept, recently unveiled in Miami.
In addition, a new check-in experience for First customers, developed in collaboration with American Airlines, will open at Heathrow Terminal 3. Lounge redevelopments are also underway in Boston and Newark, with Geneva and San Francisco to follow next year.
The lounge investment program, according to the announcement, is part of British Airways’ wider “customer experience transformation,” including its recently announced A380 retrofit program, featuring brand-new cabins.
Sean Doyle, British Airways’ CEO, said: “This investment is a major milestone in the evolution of our lounges and reflects our ambition to create a more connected and consistent customer journey.” These spaces, he continued, “will take our lounge design concept to the next step, building on Miami and creating a distinctive British Airways look and feel across key customer touchpoints, from First Wing and our lounges to the onboard experience.” (First Wing is the airline’s dedicated premium check‑in and security facility at London Heathrow Terminal 5.)
The first completed A380 retrofit is expected to enter service “in the coming months,” the carrier announced. The aircraft “transformation,” according to the announcement, includes brand-new seats in every cabin with new in-flight entertainment screens, alongside redesigned galleys and stairways. The upgrade will feature what British Airways calls the world’s largest business class cabin, with 106 Club Suite seats spanning the entire upper deck, finished with new trims and detailing. The aircraft will also feature a “refreshed” onboard experience, including new First and World Traveller Plus amenity kits, and new bedding in First, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller.
