American Airlines customers who purchase a Basic Economy ticket will no longer earn AAdvantage Miles or Loyalty Points.

Confirming an ‘X’ post, the airline told multiple news outlets, “We routinely evaluate our fare products to remain competitive in the marketplace.”

According to the airline, Basic Economy customers will continue to receive one free personal item and one free carry-on bag, free snacks, soft drinks and inflight entertainment. The airline’s Basic Economy ticket is the lowest main cabin fare and also offers the lowest price.

Delta Air Lines’ Main Basic (formerly Basic Economy) does not offer the ability to earn loyalty points toward Medallion status with its Delta SkyMiles program. United Airlines still awards Mileage Plus loyalty program Premier Qualifying Points on the original Basic Economy fare; however, there are limitations regarding carry-on baggage.
