At issue: Lufthansa's Preferred Fares Program (PFP). More specifically, it's Amadeus' shifting of the carrier's z4.90 per-segment fee to TMCs and corporations. It's a fee that the GDS used to absorb for its customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Lichtenstein — in instances where those countries are points of origin. Business Travel Coalition Chairman Kevin Mitchell labels the move "an ominous development," and contends it "establishes a permanent price increase by effectively shifting Lufthansa's fully burdened distribution costs onto the backs of its very best customers."
