AirCell, a provider of airborne communications, has its first roaming partner in iPass. Using iPassConnect mobility manager software on their laptop or smartphone, iPass customers will have one-click access to the AirCell Gogo network. Pending the necessary integration steps, iPass expects to make the service available to iPass customers later this year.
AirCell's in-flight Internet will turn commercial airplanes into Wi-Fi hotspots, enabling passengers with laptop computers and smartphones to surf the web or check e-mail. AirCell's service will be available on American, Virgin America and other airlines later this year.
AirCell has also partnered with Aricent, a communications software company, for the development of key software and processing components for the company's in-flight broadband.
