Think Thanks

It’s a good time of year to take stock and appreciate yourself and those around you
November. Crisp air. Fallen leaves. Planning for the holidays. The year is about to enter that “lame duck” period, with all eyes on 2014. Around Thanksgiving the focus shifts to closing out the calendar, finalizing December vacation days, and deciding if you can handle another office holiday celebration.

Speaking of the Thanksgiving holiday, it’s a great time to take stock and reflect on the year 2013 and ask yourself what makes you thankful. I never liked this question at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Some around the circle would focus on themselves (“I’m thankful that I graduated law school”), others would get emotional (“I’m thankful for my wonderful children and my beautiful new granddaughter”), and others would make a joke of it all (“I’m thankful that Aunt Anne didn’t burn the turkey”).
