The Measure of Success

Working hard at the wrong thing is no virtue – especially when it comes to sizing up travel effectiveness
No matter what the state of the economy, travel managers seem always to be under the gun to show numbers that reflect the value of the travel they manage. With the ever-broadening complexities of running a travel program, such feats are becoming increasingly more difficult to accomplish.

Just about anything can be measured – from the cost of coffee to missed opportunities – but just because an action may be quantifiable, it does not necessarily follow that the data is worth the effort to measure. So travel managers are becoming more vigilant in how they weigh travel success – not assuming that all numbers are equal and that every data point needs to be shared. For some travel managers, that can mean wading through a lot of weeds before landing in clear terrain.
