Were 2010's snowy runways practice for bigger problems?
Snowmageddon 2010 was awful, generating ample angst for business flyers. But it didn’t spark the kind of unabashed anger we saw a scant three years earlier when JetBlue operations melted down amidst a Valentine’s Day ice and snowstorm at JFK.
The reason, of course, is that airlines now proactively cancel flocks of flights far in advance of frozen precip. The idea, pioneered by JetBlue and Southwest, is that flyers are less frazzled stuck at home or in their hotel rooms than cozying up with a few thousand of their closest friends out at the airport waiting for Godot.
