Mind If I Ask a Question?

For corporate travel buyers, the year ahead offers an ever-changing litany of opportunities – and challenges
As I wrap up activities for 2018 and think about the challenges my travel group faced this year and what may be on the horizon for 2019, the recurring theme is managing change. Travel, as an industry, is constantly changing on multiple fronts. My company runs a CTD, so we are affected not only with regards to business travel, but as an agency as well.

So that brings up a few questions.

With the advent of NDC bringing more content to GDS offerings, will that add complexity or simplify our travel bookings? One challenge will be deciding what content we want to show or make available in keeping with our travel policies. Online booking tools and expense management systems continue to develop. But will they become more or less integrated with GDS and how does that play with the changing NDC landscape?

Along those same lines, what will happen with airlines in 2019? Carriers could continue to expand and create competition in more markets. On the other hand more low-cost carriers could come along and reduce service. How will Brexit affect our ability to support our European requirements (if there’s a Brexit at all)? Airlines seem bent on continuing the push to their direct channels and expanding their ancillary fees to companies and passengers. If that’s the case, how does that affect our policies and systems?
