Business travel is a $1.3 trillion business worldwide, and all those dollars generate a huge amount of information. By itself all that data is just data. But framed in the right strategy, it has the power to deliver greater return on the organization’s travel dollar investment and enhance the experience of every traveler.

Last month we talked about the core components of building a Phat Data strategy. This month we take a peek into how one experienced travel buyer built her data strategy and how effective it has become in helping them manage their program.

Industry veteran Rita Visser, director of global travel sourcing and GPO at Oracle, adamantly believes that focusing on data and analytics drives the decision-making process. Whether organizations are determining procurement-related activities or operational improvements, the data tells the story.

In the end there are two outcomes that can be expected from the data strategy: It either provides understanding or it leads to action.
