The Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) UK & Ireland has appointed Advito, the consulting arm of BCD Travel, to take the lead in development of its ITM Resources project, which has been charged with delivering a series of templates and resources for new travel buyers based in the UK.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has appointed Eva Ziegler as global brand leader for W Hotels Worldwide. Ziegler will continue in her role as head of Le Méridien, another Starwood brand.
American Express, BCD Travel's Advito consulting practice and Carlson Wagonlit — as well as a number of niche players — have all come out with their forecasts for the cost of travel in 2009.
There are an increasing number of mobile services being offered for travel management programs and to business travelers themselves, most with good arguments for their implementation. But corporate IT managers are noting markedly increased telecommunications costs.
For the past several years, it's been the hoteliers. A strong economy, steadily increasing business travel demand and lagging supply has given them the opportunity to take significant year-over-year increases on corporate negotiated rates as well as most other segments of transient travel.
