The attendees at BABTA’s October meeting heard a mixed report on the status of hotel room costs and the meetings outlook around the Bay Area for the next two years from John Reyes, executive vice president and chief customer officer of the San Francisco Travel Association.

Travel and meeting managers in the UK and Ireland appear to be on the verge of demanding “more diverse data sets” than they’ve had up till now, according to T. Paul Tilstone, chief executive of The Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) UK & Ireland.
The travel management team for Capital One Financial — Tamara Jones, senior manager for travel expense management and accounts payable; Dale Smith, senior director of shared services; and Heather Young, manager of travel expense management — has been named the first recipients of the Excellence Award for Management of Corporate Travel Spend, sponsored by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) and MasterCard Worldwide.
Continuing its extensive corporate social responsibility initiatives, the Los Angeles BTA has pledged to match, up to $2,500, funds raised at its annual gala this month for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
A week before they were field-tested by Thanksgiving weekend travelers, expanded use of full-body screening machines and enhanced pat-down procedures were seen as an acceptable security practice by 81 percent of 934 travel professionals responding to a survey conducted by the National Business Travel Association (NBTA).
Contrary to expectations, nearly half of Canadian organizations responding to a survey by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and the Conference Board of Canada say their travel spending actually increased in 2010.
