United has extended the validity of unused tickets issued between May 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2022. Wholly unused tickets originally issued on or after Jan. 1, 2022 will be valid for 12 months. Additionally, Basic Economy tickets issued May 1 – Dec. 31, 2021 with travel Aug. 11 - Dec. 31, 2021 can be changed without a fee through Dec. 31, 2021. Tickets, according to a statement, will remain active in the carrier’s system. In addition, Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC), International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Billing & Settlement Plan (BSP) and each GDS will recognize the ticket validity, making tickets accessible for customers. Refunds for refundable tickets or ones that had a schedule change that qualifies for a refund must be submitted via ARC, BSP or GDS.
