Turkish Airlines has signed the Global SAF Declaration, which represents a collaboration between aviation, aerospace and fuel partners to completely decarbonize sustainable aviation fuel. According to an announcement, the carrier plans to increase SAF usage to the highest levels in line with technical, regulatory, safety and financial feasibility. Levent Konukçu, chief investment and technology officer, said that through reducing emissions significantly with the inclusion of new-generation aircraft to its fleet, operational optimizations and high-level fuel saving applications, Turkish Airlines “will continue its support and investment to sustainable aviation fuels.” The airline began using SAF in 2022 on its Istanbul-Paris route and later extended the usage to multiple European cities. In addition, according to an announcement, the carrier cooperates with universities to support biofuel research and development in order to reduce fossil fuel usage in aviation.
