Many corporate travel programs are unprepared to address safety challenges associated with their lodging policies, according to a new guide from ACTE Global (Association of Corporate Travel Executives) and International SOS called “Hotel Safety: A Guide to Staying Safe for Employers & Travelers.” The report quotes data from Ipsos MORI, a research firm, as finding that only 19 percent of organizations implemented safety and security checks for accommodations in 2017. Greeley Koch, executive director of ACTE Global, said it is not enough to create security policies based only on air travel and location-based threat assessments. Koch said even some places considered safe have experienced terrorist attacks on hotels. He added that travel managers must understand the importance of making sure their travelers are safe at every stop on their itinerary, from the airport to the convention center to the hotel.
