A weekly survey of meeting planners by i-Meet, a platform for meeting professionals, showed a slight increase in the percentage of planners who believe they will resume face-to-face meetings before the end of 2020 (from 18% to 21%). The most recent survey was taken the week ending Aug. 23. Other results showed that 71% of planners have events booked and contracted in 2020 or 2021; 69% of respondents anticipate they will resume face-to-face events sometime in 2021; 49% see face-to-face events returning in the first half of 2021 (Q1-20%, Q2 -29%); and 13% see them resuming in the fourth quarter of 2020, up from 10% the previous week. Uncertainty around a time to resume face-to-face events is at 11% (up from 10% the previous week). Asked which event types would be operating initially, small drive-to events were named by 67% while hybrids were named by 70%. Least likely to be planned are international events and cruises.
