South African Airways (SAA) has appointed Aviareps as its general sales agent in North America. Effective June 1, 2022, Aviareps will be assuming responsibilities for sales and marketing representation for SAA in the US and Canada. The carrier will be closing its North America regional office on June 30, 2022. That office had maintained a presence with customers and the travel trade for over 50 years.

While SAA has temporarily suspended flights to the US due to the pandemic and its business restructuring, Aviareps’ appointment, according to an announcement, will ensure the airline’s brand reputation is maintained in the market;it will also provide continued engagement with travel trade and corporate partners in developing further business opportunities. Todd Neuman, executive vice president for SAA in North America, said the airline remains steadfast in its dedication to support its customers and travel advisers in North America “and is pleased to be associated with Aviareps, who share that same commitment.” North America, said Neuman, is key strategically for SAA and one of the largest source markets for travel to Southern Africa, “so it is important that we continue to cultivate new business for the destinations that SAA currently serves in South Africa and throughout Africa.” Leslie Machado, managing director of Aviareps, said the company’s topmost priority is to maintain the special partnerships in the US and Canada that SAA has built over many decades with its customers and trade partners.
