Sonesta International Hotels has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire RLH Corp., which operates Red Lion Hotels. With the transaction, Sonesta will become one of the largest hotel companies in the US, with about 1,200 properties in multiple brands across several market segments. Carlos Flores, CEO of Sonesta, said the company had started 2020 as a manager of just 58 hotels under three Sonesta-specific brands. Keith Pierce, a 35-year industry veteran, will join Sonesta as executive vice president, president of franchise and development. He was most recently president of the Passionality Group, a hospitality investment and management advisory firm, and has also held major positions with Wyndham Worldwide. The acquisition of RLH is currently expected to close in the first half of 2021 and is subject to customary closing conditions, including the approval of RLH's shareholders. Sonesta expects to fund the transaction with cash-on-hand and/or through capital contributions from its shareholders.
