Qatar Airways announced that passengers will be required to wear a face shield – in addition to a face mask or face covering. The carrier said it will be issuing protection kits – including face shields, hand sanitizer, a surgical face mask and disposable gloves – before passengers board aircraft. The disposable shields come in two sizes – one for adults and one for children; children under 2 are exempt. All passengers must wear the shields during boarding and embarkation. In flight, the shields are obligatory for economy class passengers unless they’re eating or drinking. Those traveling in business class can wear the shields “at their own discretion, as they enjoy more space and privacy,” according to the airline. Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive, said that as the largest international airline flying consistently throughout the pandemic, Qatar has become one of the most experienced in safety and hygiene.
