Nebraska Attorney General Doug Petersen has filed a lawsuit against Hilton, accusing the hotel company of deceptive pricing practices and “charging hidden resort fees to increase profits.” The suit is the latest legal action taken around resort fees. The District of Columbia attorney general recently filed a similar complaint against Marriott International. That suit alleges that the hotel company advertises a base rate for rooms to lure customers and then adds on additional fees either when consumers ultimately book  their stay or when they check out of the hotel, a practice known as “drip pricing.” The Nebraska suit claims that Hilton has misled consumers for years regarding the true cost of a hotel room. It seeks to force Hilton to advertise more transparently, provide monetary relief to affected consumers and pay civil penalties.
