Airline conglomerate to offer status for life for some members and will replaces miles with points system >>

The Lufthansa Group is simplifying its loyalty programs and offering customers what it calls an easier and more transparent collection for achieving and maintaining Frequent Traveler, Senator and HON Circle Levels. In the future, Frequent Traveler and Senator level members will maintain that status for life if they have been at that level for 10 calendar years. In addition, a points system will replace status miles. In addition to the award miles for their flight, guests will receive points instead of the current status and HON Circle miles. The amount of points that can be earned on a flight will only depend on the travel class and whether the flight is continental or intercontinental. Also, the status duration will be valid for at least a year and up to 26 months; the time period to collect the required points for all levels is one calendar year. All changes to the program apply to flights beginning Jan. 1, 2021. The Miles & More bonus programs remains unchanged with award miles redeemable for non-cash awards or services.
