JetBlue has become the first US airline to require that all passengers wear a face covering while flying. In a statement, the carrier said the new policy will require customers to wear a face covering over their noses and mouths throughout their journeys, including during check-in, boarding, in flight and deplaning. The change will take effect on May 4. Passengers will be reminded of the requirement through emails before their flights and through signs and announcements in airports. Joanna Geraghty, president, said in a statement that “this is the new flying etiquette.” She said that while cabin air is well circulated and cleaned through filters every few minutes, “this is a shared space where we have to be considerate of others.” She said the airline is also asking customers to follow these guidelines in the airport as well. JetBlue already required its crew members to wear facial coverings.
