Icelandair will launch a new route from Reykjavik to Miami on Oct. 25, to continue through the following March. The service will operate three times weekly — Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays — using the carrier’s newly introduced Airbus A321LR aircraft. This will be the carrier’s 19th North American destination and its second Florida gateway, alongside Orlando.

The route, according to an announcement, allows seamless connections to 34 European destinations. In addition, Icelandair and Southwest Airlines launched a new strategic partnership in January. This agreement, according to Icelandair, allows Southwest passengers to seamlessly book itineraries that include flights on both airlines, providing smoother transitions between Southwest’s extensive domestic network and Icelandair’s transatlantic services.

The new aircraft is the first of three scheduled for delivery in the first part of this year. It replaces the Boeing 757, which has been the airline’s core equipment for many years. The A321LR has a seating capacity of 187 passengers, with 22 in Saga Premium and 165 in economy.
