Flight Centre Travel Group has announced two new investments in its “Labs” program that the company says will help bolster its ability to incubate and bring to market emerging travel technologies; the TMC has over 30 brands in 23 countries. Sam:] (smart assistant for mobile), a mobile travel assistant already used by many FLT brands, has been fully acquired. It is an app that supports travelers with itinerary management, intelligent notifications and capabilities for live chat between consultants and customers. As a result of the deal, FLT has now become the sole owner and licensor of the product. In addition, FLT has increased its investment in 30SecondsToFly and its Claire product. Claire is a booking engine driven completely by AI-powered chat and trip curation. FLT will have two-year exclusive use of Claire in the large global TMC category, and the product will be fully integrated into Sam:] to provide AI-powered chat and booking capability for customers. The investment will increase FLT’s stake in 30SecondsToFly to approximately 10 percent.
