Report from ARC and Expedia shows flyers are responding to possibility of lower fares by booking in advance

The 2018 Air Travel Outlook Report from the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), in collaboration with Expedia, says that the advance purchase window for cost-effective ticket purchases continues to gradually increase due to strong demand. As a result, business travelers are booking farther in advance for long-haul, premium flights. The report also showed that booking air travel more than 30 days ahead is a good strategy for purchasing lower-priced tickets; that the lowest airfares for economy seats were booked on a Sunday; and that the busiest gateways into the US are New York, Los Angeles and Miami, while other gateway cities continue to see strong traffic, signaling continuing demand for international travel into the US. ARC and Expedia together conducted an original analysis of over one billion flights to spot trends that might help flyers determine the best personal choices from the myriad of available air travel options.
