American Airlines has temporarily changed a number of policies in order to encourage social distancing in response to the COVID-19 crisis. These changes include a relaxed seating policy, reduced food and beverage service, and suspension of checked pets. Seating policy has been relaxed to enable customers to practice social distancing on board whenever possible. For the safety of customers and flight attendants, the airline is temporarily suspending food and beverage service on flights under 2,200 miles (typically less than four and a half hours). Limited beverages will be available on request. On flights over 2,200 miles (typically longer than four and a half hours), a streamlined food and beverage service will be available.
