American Airlines and JetBlue Airways have formed a strategic partnership to give customers in the Northeast more route choices by integrating their networks. JetBlue will get reciprocal codeshare flights on 60 American routes and American will receive similar access on 130 JetBlue routes, providing passengers with “seamless connectivity.” The relationship, according to an announcement, will “accelerate each airline’s recovery as the travel industry adapts to new trends as a result of the pandemic.” Among the outcomes of the arrangement are service on American from New York (JFK) to Tel Aviv and Athens; additional JetBlue flights at LaGuardia and Newark and an increased presence for JetBlue at JFK for connections to American’s international network. JetBlue plans to enhance service to strategic markets on the East Coast, West Coast, and in the Southeast, building on its recently announced service between Newark and nine markets, including Mint service to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Customers will be able to book a single itinerary on either carrier’s website and, according to the airlines, enjoy convenient connections and an improved on-the-ground experience. The arrangement also promises new, though unspecified, loyalty benefits for travelers.
