American Airlines and China Southern have entered into a new codeshare agreement as well as a new interline agreement. The move follows American’s $200 million investment in China Southern, which closed in August. American will be able to place its code on nine China Southern routes from Beijing Capital International Airport, including flights to Changsa, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Harbin, Nanning, and Shezhen; China Southern will be able to place its code on seven domestic American routes including Los Angeles to Chicago and Philadelphia, Phoenix to Los Angeles (one-way only), and San Francisco to Dallas and Phoenix. The codeshare went into effect for flights starting Jan. 18. The interline agreement will provide American’s passengers with access to over 100 destinations in China served by China Southern.
