Airline Ticket Sales Up in March While Prices Dropped

Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) announced that the consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold in March at U.S.-based travel agencies increased 3 percent compared with March 2018, totaling $9.3 billion vs. $9.1 billion (ticket sales). The average US roundtrip ticket price was $487, a $10 decrease from March 2018. The total number of passenger trips settled by ARC for US travel agencies increased 3.3 percent to 29,159,100 compared with 28,220,151 in March 2018. US domestic trips increased 2.7 percent while international passenger trips grew 4.3 percent. Electronic Miscellaneous Document sales (includes fees for products and services such as upgraded seats, checked luggage, an unaccompanied minor, pet in cabin, etc.) in March totaled $7.9 million, a 4.6 percent increase compared with the same period in 2018. EMD transactions decreased by 8.4 percent in March 2019 compared with March 2018.
