Turkish Airlines and GOL Linhas Aéreas, the Brazil-based carrier, announced a codeshare and frequent flyer partnership (FFP) agreement. The codeshare agreement states that Turkish Airlines passengers from Africa, Asia, the Far East and the Middle East can more easily book connections with the entire network operated by GOL in Brazil and to Asunción (Paraguay), Santiago (Chile), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Lima (Peru). Currently, Turkish Airlines operates seven daily flights to GRU Airport, São Paulo’s international airport. With the codeshare agreement, passengers of Turkish Airlines will be able to purchase tickets for flights operated by GOL in Brazil directly through the airline’s sales channels. Besides this codeshare, Turkish Airlines and GOL have reached consensus on launching FFP cooperation as well. Turkish Airlines’ Miles&Smiles and GOL’s SMILES members will gain access to accrual and redemption benefits on both airlines. The FFP partnership will initially start with redemption, and accrual benefits will be provided later. Bilal Ekşi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, said the arrangement enables passengers to reach the largest number of flights and destinations in Brazil. For Brazilians, the partnership offers connections with Turkish Airlines in Istanbul and many other airports around the world. In the future, according to the announcement, the companies will work to expand the agreement to other international destinations served by GOL.
