JetBlue has named William Cade as vice president, technical operations. He will be responsible for maintenance, materials, quality, engineering and technical purchasing functions. A 30-year industry veteran, he was most recently vice president, base technical operations for American Airlines.


Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has promoted Jill Kluge to be CMO, to take effect on Dec. 31. She is currently the company’s group director of brand communications. Kluge joined the company in 1991 in Hong Kong as group public relations manager. Prior to joining Mandarin, she held sales and marketing positions for a variety of international hotel brands in the UK and Asia.


Shinola Hotel in Detroit has named Elliott Broom as general manager; he had previously been vice president, museum operations at the Detroit Institute of Arts. He has also served as a manager at a number of luxury hotels. The property also named Sol Andrews as food and beverage director; he had previously overseen the dining venues at The William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn and has 17 years of experience in food and beverage operations.


Carey International announced that Don R. Dailey, the company’s former president, died earlier this month; he was 81. Over many years with Carey, he conceptualized its global franchise network, called the only one of its kind in the ground transportation industry. According to the company, he moved Carey in a direction that led to a new model of centralizing and consolidating operations; and to the application of identical service standards for domestic and international trips. He also assisted in the creation of the industry’s first online reservations system in the 1990s. Finally, he led Carey in becoming the first publicly traded company in chauffeured transportation.
