The US Transportation Department has a new head. The Senate has voted 93-6 to confirm Elaine Chao as the agency’s next secretary. The department has around 60,000 employees including the Federal Aviation Administration, which handles aviation safety and air traffic control.
Chao was formerly US Labor secretary and deputy transportation secretary. In her new position, she will play a key role in several far reaching decisions, such as how to regulate self-driving cars and the increasing use of drones. She will also be a vital player in the Trump administration's plans for a $1 trillion infrastructure program over 10 years.
Carlson Hotels, Inc has appointed Federico González Tejera as chief executive officer succeeding David Berg who will leave the company after a brief transition period. González is the former CEO of NH Hotel Group.
Previously he was a senior executive at Disneyland Paris, most recently serving as deputy general manager. Prior to that, he worked at Procter & Gamble in Madrid, Brussels and Stockholm, and served as country head of Portugal.
Marcus Hotels & Resorts has promoted Jeff Peterson to the newly created role of vice president of finance and transaction administration. Peterson joined the company in 2013 as vice president of operations and became senior director of finance and transaction administration in 2015.
Previously he served more than 17 years with Hyatt Corporation. He began his career in public accounting at the international accounting firm KPMG.
The company also announced the promotion of John Hendricks to division controller. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels in 2015, Hendricks served as an audit manager for KPMG.
TCG Consulting has welcomed Margaret Brady to its senior leadership team as director of TCG's Global Management Practice. She has over 20 years experience as an industry subject matter expert and strategic leader.
As the senior director of global procurement for A.T. Kearney Consulting, she was responsible for end to end management and development of a global program. Her work has also included such category leaders as Grant Thornton and Uber.
Viceroy Hotel Group has announced that Jeff Smith has been promoted to the role of chief financial officer. Smith had served as the company’s SVP finance since 2014.
Prior to joining VHG, he worked for Intercontinental Hotels Group, with roles that included director of finance and director of FP&A for the Americas Region. His responsibilities spanned owned, managed and franchised properties across five countries.
