Lufthansa took delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Frankfurt. According to an announcement, the aircraft was originally built for another airline but had not been integrated into that carrier’s fleet. The cabin, said the announcement, provides comfortable seats in Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. They will be refurbished in Lufthansa’s colors and design over the next few weeks. The new aircraft will then be deployed beginning in October, initially from Frankfurt for training purposes on domestic German routes. The first intercontinental scheduled destination for the plane will be Toronto. Jens Ritter, CEO, said that with the delivery the carrier is introducing another modern aircraft type that is one of the most fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft in its fleet. This will allow, he said, for further improvement in carbon emissions. In Business Class, all seats have direct access to the aisle and can be quickly and easily converted into beds that are more than 6 feet long; there is also more storage space. The aircraft is one of 32 Dreamliners that Lufthansa expects to receive by 2027.
