Lufthansa has launched “Sleeper’s Row,” which allows passengers to book an entire row of economy class seats and use them as a bed for the duration of a flight. Those who purchase the product get a mattress, blanket and pillow, as well as a special seat belt enabling them to be strapped in while lying down. With up to three Sleeper’s Rows per flight, the new seating setup is subject to availability at the time of check-in or boarding, so cannot be booked in advance. The rollout follows a successful trial of the arrangement on Lufthansa’s Frankfurt-Sao Paulo route last year. Sleeper’s Row, which costs between $189 and $272 depending on the journey, is available on long-haul flights with a minimum duration of 11 hours. The multiseat purchase is far less expensive than buying additional seats and is designed to tempt travelers back into the air.
